Emma Miloyo (29 December 1981) is a Kenyan professional architect. She is the first woman to become president of the Architectural Association of Kenya in 2017. Miloyo was listed with four others on Archinect.com on October 2016, as an Emerging Female Architect of East Africa in Africa Great Lakes region countries.

Early Life and Education

Emma Miloyo was born on December 29, 1981, and raised in Nairobi. She went to Loreto Msongari Primary School before continuing her secondary school education at Kenya High School. In 2006, Miloyo graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology with a Bachelor of Architecture degree.

She was the first woman to graduate with a first-class degree in architecture from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Career

Miloyo co-founded Design Source Limited in January 2007 after she finished at Jomo Kenyatta University. The firm has offices in Nairobi and Mombasa. She was also a member of the Konza Technology City Board.

She became Vice President of the Architectural Association of Kenya in June 2015, serving in that position until February 2017. In March 2017, Miloyo became the first female President of the Architectural Association of Kenya.

Miloyo serves as an inspiration for young women to see architecture as a career. She volunteers her time to help girls in poverty attend school through the Ex-Bomarian Education Trust. She is also a founding Board Member of Wire (Women in Real Estate)

Personal Life

Emma Miloyo got married to Chris Naicca, her husband is also an architect and classmate at the university. They are blessed with three children. Both of them founded Design Source Limited, the architectural firm they co-founded in 2007.

Recognition

Business Daily Africa ranked her among Kenya’s Top 40 under-40 Women both in 2011 and 2018.
