Early Life and Education
Charity Wayua was born in 1985 in Kikuyu Town, Kenya. She attended Alliance Girls High School in Kikuyu Town and graduated in 2002. She got scholarships from the Zawadi Africa Education Fund to study in the United States; the scholarship was funded and supported by Susan Mboya.
She went to Xavier University, United States, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 2007. Charity proceeded to Purdue University in the United States, where she was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2011.
Career
Charity taught undergraduate chemistry students as a teaching assistant at Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana, until August 2009.
After her doctoral studies, she was employed as a research scientist by IBM for the Africa region, based in Nairobi.
She leads the team of researchers charged with developing “commercially viable technologies” that really help how governments work and serve their citizens. The work her team carried out in conjunction with the Kenyan government between 2013 and 2014, really improved Kenya’s ranking in the World Bank’s annual Ease of Doing Business ranking, taking them up 21 spots.
Charity got a promotion in June 2018, to Corporate Strategy Associate at IBM. She continues working both in Nairobi, Kenya and at corporate headquarters in Armonk, New York State.

In September 2018, Charity was ranked among the Top 40 Under 40 Women in Kenya 2018 by Business Daily Africa.
Personal Life
Charity Wayua got married to Peter Ayiro. Her husband currently serves as a German teacher at her alma mater, Alliance Girls’ High School.
