Early Life
Perpetua Nkwocha was born on the 3rd of January, 1976, in Nigeria. She grew up in Nigeria.
Career
Professional Career
From 2007 until 2014, she represented Sunnan SK of Sweden in the second level (Elitettan) and the top division (Damallsvenskan).
Nkwocha announced her intention to retire in two years, and the BBC reported in June 2008 that she wanted to be active in football after her retirement by working as a coach. She continued to compete in Sweden’s second-tier league as of 2012.
Nkwocha, 39, left Sunnan ahead of the 2015 campaign to work as a player-coach for lower level Clemensnäs IF. She had coached boys’ football in Nigeria for a portion of the previous season, but after obtaining Swedish citizenship, she desired to remain in Sweden.
International Career
Nkwocha has competed in seven CAF Women’s Championships with the Nigeria national team (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014), winning five of them (2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014).
She helped Nigeria win the championship in the 2004 African Women’s Championship by scoring four goals against Cameroon in the game’s finale. She was voted the best player of the competition and set a record by scoring nine goals in total during the competition.
Nkwocha was chosen by the Confederation of African Football as the African Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2004, 2005, 2010, and 2011.
Nkwocha has also competed in the Olympics in Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004, and Beijing in 2008, as well as four FIFA Women’s World Cups (2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015).
Personal Life
Justice Tetteh Komey, a Ghanaian football player for Pite IF and a former professional striker for Anakale Dardanelspor of Turkey, is the husband of Perpetua Nkwocha.
