Nnamdi Innocent Biography
Nnamdi Innocent is a Nigerian powerlifter who represents Nigeria at the Paralympics. He competed for Nigeria in the men’s 72 kg event and took home the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He failed to complete a successful lift in the men’s 72 kg competition in Tokyo in 2021, Japan’s Summer Paralympics.

Early Life and Education
Nnamdi Innocent was born on September 30, 1980, in Lagos State, Nigeria. He actually hails from the southeastern parts of Nigeria. He had his primary and secondary education in Lagos State, before proceeding to Benue State University, Makurdi, where he studied Public Administration.
Career
Nnamdi began powerlifting in 2007 in Lagos State, Nigeria, before joining the Delta State Sports Commission Team in Delta State, Nigeria. Nnamdi Innocent competed for Nigeria in the men’s 72 kg event and took home the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also failed to lift successfully in the men’s 72 kg event in 2021 at the Tokyo, Japan, Summer Paralympics.
At the 2018 African Para Powerlifting Championships in Algiers, Algeria, he took home the gold medal in the men’s 72 kg category, and he also won the bronze medal in the men’s 72 kg category in 2019 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
He had a successful outing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, where he took home the bronze medal in the men’s lightweight competition.
Personal Life
Nnamdi got married in 2019 to a fellow athlete, who he regarded, alongside Iranian Para powerlifter Siamand Rahman, as his hero and influence in his career. He got his impairment while he was a child due to polio.
