Ibiyemi Sulaimon Seriki, popularly known as Seriki, is a Nigerian musician who majors in rap and AfroHip-pop. He started making music at a very young age, while he was in secondary school, which earned him the name, Seriki Omo Owo. He is known for the popular “Agbalumo” song.

Seiki was born in the 1980s in Ikosi Ejirin local government, Lagos State, Nigeria. He was born into a family of three siblings: two boys and a girl. He attended Ayetoro Grammar School in Ebute Metta, Oyingbo, Lagos State, and graduated in 2004. He also got admission to the Petroleum Training Institute in Warri, Delta State, where he studied industrial safety and graduated with an Ordinary National Diploma in 2006.

He later proceeded to the Lagos State University (LASU) on a part-time programme, where he studied Business Administration.

Career

Seriki started with an interest in music and comedy while in secondary school, and he also attended and won several street music competitions in his early days, but never thought of going professional with music until he was through with schooling. He has been in close contact with Dehide Fajana, who was 9ice manager since he was in secondary school, and who later introduced him to 2phate and ID Cabassa. And Cabassa later introduced him to 9ice.

Seriki started rapping with Pidgeon English in 2002, before switching to the Yoruba indigenous language, where he did covers of people’s songs like Eedris Abdulkareem and Buster Rhymes, before making his first stage appearance in 2004. In 2007, he was convinced by his friend to switch to the afro-pop genre, which prompted him to release his first record single, “Aye Loja,” which was a solo rap.

He has worked with producers like Pastor Child, Chipo, and ID Cabassa. On his album, he has also worked with 9ice, all the Alapomeji crew, Cleva J, Wizkid, and Vector, among others, on songs.

Controversy

DNA Controversy

On Friday, September 3, 2021, Ohiri accused Nedu of domestic abuse. A few weeks after having their child via C-section delivery, she accused Nedu of hitting her. Nedu reacted to his wife’s accusations on September 4, 2021, and said he had never physically abused her. Later, Nedu would refute her statements, claiming that their union had many problems. “Our marriage was beset with a lot of troubles,” he stated. One of them was her ongoing infidelity, which prompted me to run a paternity test on our children and discover that, despite the fact that our first son was born during the time we were married, he is not my biological son.

He also provided a copy of the DNA test results from a forensic lab in Toronto, Canada called Viaguard Accu-metrics, to back up his claims. While Uzoamaka had claimed that she had not betrayed Nedu during their short union, she did add that she had not given birth to her ex-child husband on purpose. Even though she was unaware of it, Uzoamaka said that she was already carrying her ex’s child before she married Nedu.

After her previous relationship ended, Uzoamaka allegedly wanted to get to know Nedu. They later got married while she was pregnant, unaware that he wasn’t the cause of the pregnancy. Everybody could see that she was pregnant at the wedding. She claimed that their marriage’s breakdown was primarily due to a lack of effective communication. She claimed that domestic abuse had been a problem in their marriage and that their final divorce had nothing to do with the results of the DNA test.

During some of his interviews, he made it known that his family will always be his top priority. He once had a romantic relationship with Alice Myeza, who birthed him a triplet in 2003. He got married to Charlene some years later and both couples are blessed with a son.

Education

Nkosi started his educational journey, both primary and secondary, in some of the accredited local schools in South Africa. He got his basic education and matric certificate from these schools and further enrolled at Fuda Academy for Dramatic Arts in 1989.

He graduated with a Diploma in Arts which cut across acting, directing, film and television, in 1992. He also attended the Centurion Academic College to further his studies.

Acting Career

Nkosi has over the years proven to be an iconic TV presenter and actor. He started his acting career after completing his studies. In 1994, he landed his debut role in a television Drama series U Bambo Lwami, followed by another role in the Afrikaans rugby drama, Pale Toe. He also had a five-year stint as a presenter on Jam Alley, which got him two Avanti awards as the Best Presenter.

Nkosi appeared in several other dramas including Scandal where he acted in the role of Hector. He also played the role of Moses Shezi in Isono and played Alfred Phakathi in Isibaya from seasons 4 to 5.

Some other roles he played are The Last Hope for the SABC1, a supporting role in Soul City and from 2011 to 2012, he had a recurring role as Norman Sebeka on the M-Net soap opera, The Wild.

Presenting Career

After obtaining a five-year contract as a presenter in Jam Alley, in 2007, Nimrod Nkosi co-hosted the Lotto game program, ‘Raise Your Game’ with former Miss South Africa, Vennesa Carreira.

In 2009, the Live Lotto Draw was moved to SABC, he and his co-host moved with the program. He then began hosting the Gospel-themed show John 14 on DStv station Mzansi Magic Music in 2013.

Nkosi never stopped giving his best as he took over as a host of the Mzanzi Magic docu-reality series, ‘Utatakho’ from Zola in 2015. He also showed on the second season of the e.tv game show, I love South Africa as a guest competitor.
